Pastor/Principal fired for sexual relations with student

Norman Willacey

Norman Willacey, the disgraced pastor named in a sex scandal, has been fired from the Belmopan Baptist High School with immediate effect and his teaching days may be over. The Baptist Association of Belize says that, “after its investigation and deliberation, the Management found the allegations to be true and recommended Mr. Willacey’s immediate dismissal; and revocation of license.” The release states that the Teaching Services Commission has approved the recommendation for Willacey’s immediate dismal. Willacey, who served as a pastor, principal and a high ranking member of the Belize Baptist Association, was accused of having a relationship with one of his students back in mid-August.  He was subsequently put on a fifteen day suspension from his duties as principal at the high school where he also doubled as a counselor. The media broke the story of Willacey’s involvement with a sixteen year old girl, after the minor’s mother reported it. The mother had copies of a number of correspondences; letters, emails and online chat messages between Willacey and the girl. The conversations, from our perusal, were all of a sexual nature. Willacey would later admit to “messing around” with the student in an accidental text message to one of our reporters. A few weeks ago he resigned from the pulpit and his pastoral duties.

It was an ugly situation, but I think the Baptist Association handled it in a very deliberate and appropriate way. Once a complaint was made, they investigated and put safety of the students and integrity of the program first. Other organizations, including GOB, can learn from their example.

    Good-bye and good riddance.

hopefully serves as a reminder to teachers, counselors and all individuals that deal with young girls and young boys because these things are getting to common and needs to be fixed before we get into more scandals that affect schools, churches and even work places.

They should not only ban this animal from teaching, but ban him from being around children as well.

We as parents should show animals like Willacey old @$$ that we have become a nation of civilized people, and like terrorism our children rapist will not go unpunished.

I hope that the the Baptist Association learns something from this. My take is that -had the mother been less strident in seeking justice for her child, then this would have been cleverly hidden and swept under the rug. I think the enlightened moment when she determine that she must act with moral courage to face both the Ministry of Education and the “institution of God” is the great leap that we must face in these circumstances. Sadly too few of our parents have the courage and the b___ls to do what she did. The result is that our children suffer. And the sadly out of syn church was only spurred to action because of the huge public outcry.

I think that she is one of our unsung heroes and I proclaim her “Mother of the Year.”

If an adult & a minor have a sexual relationship it is always the responsibility of the adult & no blame or shame goes to the minor. Legally minors cannot consent to sexual relationships, & adults are supposed to help keep children safe, not exploit them for their own needs.

  8. b.Jones says:

Hay Rod, do you understand what “of age” means ?

Do you understand the difference between an actual crime & moral-short-comings ?

  9. sugacity says:

  11. nigel says:

@ Rod… the only thing blatant is your racism. Just as our racist tourism minister that can’t even get “mayor Young’s”[sic] [lol] (the mayor of Belmopan and a member of his own party) name right, people like the both of you have no room for intelligence in your racially bigoted brains. I shudder to think that a person like you exists in our country and I cringe to think that you may not be the only one. I thought stupidity on the order of people like yourself was only relegated to tossing your own feces from a cage in a zoo somewhere. Rod word of advice be quiet and allow evolution to catch up to you then you can use your slightly more advanced brain in conjunction to with your opposable thumbs to type something a little more coherent.
