Novelo brothers sue to stop D.F.C. Inquiry
The Novelo brothers, Tony and David, have a beef with the D.F.C. Commission of Inquiry … and while that certainly isn’t news, what is news is that today they filed a suit in the Supreme Court to shut down the entire proceeding. According to papers lodged today, they are alleging that under statutory instrument one twenty-three of 2006, enacted following the death of David Price, Prime Minister Said Musa appointed Merlene Bailey Martinez and Herbert Lord as the new co-chairs of the commission. That S.I., however, executed under the Commission of Inquiry Act, directed the pair to “endeavor to submit a report … on the outcome of the investigation within a period of one month of the date thereof.” That month, claim the Novelos, ended on January twenty-second and the Commission is therefore out of business. As if that claim was not enough, the Novelos also request that, due to a conflict of interest, forensic accountant Mark Hulse should be removed from his position with the commission. David Novelo has previously told the press that both he and his brother Tony were anxious to testify before the commission to explain the circumstances behind their company’s thirty million dollar loan from the D.F.C., all of which was dispersed in one day.
