P.M. on the way to IDB and IMF meetings

Dean Barrow

Earlier today, Prime Minister Dean Barrow headed to Washington for meetings with the Inter American Development Bank and the International Monetary Fund. A release from his office did not say the purpose, but the trip is likely related to the negotiations on the re-structuring of the Superbond. Credit rating agencies have lowered Belize’s rankings to “selective default” after government made a partial payment of eleven point seven million dollars  of the twenty-three million coupon payment that was due in August. Both the IDB and the IMF will be insisting on certain conditions if they are to assist the government to weather the superbond. Prime Minister returns next Tuesday, October second.  And according to reliable reports, the Prime Minister will be meeting on October fifth with the President of Guatemala, Otto Perez Molina. The meeting was initially reported in Guatemala for October sixth, but according to the sources, it is being moved to the fifth and details are being worked out.

We can only hope that there will not be any name callings if they say something he does not like. This man’s communication scares me, I listened to his speech on the history of Belize then and now, he actually thinks that Belize is better off now, where does he live. We can only wiat for the report and hope for the best.

Lets hope the PM does not give the IMF any tongue lashings as he is so wont to do. I vividly recall his “The IMF could go fly a kite” episode.
