Rape and robbery charges dropped after 6 years on remand

Not Guilty! That’s the verdict handed down just after two this afternoon in the 2004 case of the rape of a seventeen year old female in Belize City. The victim, now twenty-three years old, claimed that Edward Wilfred Arthurs, a Belize City resident and friend of her brother, who is now twenty-six years old, had raped and robbed her inside the Lord Ridge Cemetery. Today, after spending six years in prison, Arthurs was acquitted of both counts by a jury of nine persons in the trial which started on Friday before Justice Troadio Gonzalez. During trial, Prosecutor Thalia Megan Francis, called as many as six witnesses; including the alleged victim who recounted her version of the incident. The woman claimed that on July thirteenth, 2004, the accused followed her as she walked by the cemetery. She alleged that Arthurs grabbed her from behind, placed a minty rag over her nose and she lost consciousness. She claimed she woke up to find Arthurs raping her and a struggle ensued during which she was robbed of her cash. But while the incident occurred in 2004, Arthurs evaded detention until 2006. In court, he denied the allegations, persuading the jury, who found him not guilty of the charges. But Arthurs was not free to go home as he is presently on remand at the Belize Central Prison on a murder charge.

That’s the kind of animal who needs to be eliminated from the streets of the Jewel permanently, by any means necessary.
I feel for the victim who had to be pretty brave to tell what happened. And I question the jury, top to bottom and front to back. If juries won’t convict the worst animals, it will be hard to have security on the streets.
No DNA tests? Just he said, she said? Rapist walks free to rape & murder again. Seems like we’ve heard this story before.

If only the bad boys will do something to Borrow for him to open his eyes, because if he doesn’t feel he will do nothing for his so called people. Lord man hang these perverts. I have a daughter and I wouldn’t want men like these around her. Borrow open your eyes caz your family might be next for we the people are tired of you just ignoring our children.
