New building dedicated at A.C.C.

Story PictureThis morning, the staff and students of the Anglican Cathedral College officially declared open their new school building. The structure is the first to be built on the campus since St. Hilda’s College and St. Michael’s College merged to become A.C.C. in the early 1980’s. According to Principal Ismael Requena, the building will be used for classrooms, computer rooms, science laboratories, and the school’s canteen.

“For years we have been operating with only one science lab and what happened is that our teachers had to be very innovative and I need to really congratulate them for their innovation in using just one lab for all the four science subjects that we teach, which is chemistry, biology, physics, and integrated science. Also, we only had one computer room and we have four, third forms and three, fourth forms and we realise that in this day of science and technology, we need to offer information technology as a subject to the whole school. With this new computer lab we will be able to do so.”

With construction complete, school officials say they are now seeking support to furnish the science and computer labs with modern equipment. Built by contractor Bavian Mossiah at a cost of four hundred and seventy-seven thousand dollars, construction was made possible through fundraising projects by the Parent Teachers Association and Government of Belize through the Commonwealth Debt Initiative Program. The Social Investment Fund implemented the project on behalf of Government.
