DJs start Belize Chapter of Bum Squad

A group of approximately ten disc jockeys are now members of a world renowned DJ family: Bum Squad. Bum Squad, an international group that hosts various chapters of DJs from across the world, had its reunion in Cancun where several DJs from the jewel were invited to participate. The squad of DJs generally comes together in unity providing high quality level of entertainment with worldwide musical influences. It is a big step for the Belizean DJs as the Belize Chapter of the Bum Squad movement was formed; which will provide members with access to a wide network of exclusive music, demos, sound tracks and more. One of the Belizean participants was Khris “DJ Khris” Rosado. According to Rosado, the meeting gave Belizeans an opportunity to perform alongside some of the biggest names in the DJ world. Rosado’s participation in the movement will not only increase the music industry in Belize but also provide exposure to Belize, its culture and music.

“What it would do for Belize is definitely improve the music industry especially in terms of DJ-ing. It will gain us a bit more respect as DJs and prove to the country what it can do for them.  Being out there and having them learn about Belize was a huge deal. Most of them didn’t even know where the country was. They heard about it, they’ve heard that it is so pretty and it’s a good tourist destination, but they didn’t know that we had talent coming out of our country; especially when it comes to artist and DJs and stuff like that.  I’ve been around music all my life. Everybody else in it, ten years or twenty years almost, the more veteran DJs in it. In terms of just putting music together, it is definitely not that. It is a passion; it is an art-form and that’s what we want to bring to Belize; that’s what we want Belize to know. By doing this, by raising the bar of the entertainment that we provide, we will gain that respect by Belizeans and that’s what we want.”

“Is there an opportunity being given to the DJs from here to perform, to entertain outside of Belize?”

“Yes definitely. Actually in March, we have an event in Austin I think it is on sixth street where it is pretty much a huge party—I’m not sure what the name of it is—but basically all the big names in DJing are going to be there. You’re talking about Tiesto and Guetta and Skillex and those guys like that. It is a huge international deal and we as Bomb Squad members are invited and will go.”

Joining DJ Khris  in the movement are: DJ Flava, Omar Arzu; Troy “Dalla” Flowers, “Father Church”; “DJ Jago”; “Lindy D”; DJ Richie; DJ Dzl (Diesel); Mista Gee and Meshion “Fingers” Arnold.
