Robber charged with Attempted Murder for pushing a cop

Thirty year old Gregory Bowen was charged with attempted murder this morning when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Anne Marie Smith, following an incident on Friday during which he allegedly shoved a bicycle on a police officer, causing him to fall out of the pan of a moving vehicle. Bowen, one of five men pursued by a team of officers on mobile patrol, following the armed holdup of Moon Grocery on Coney Drive, had been detained and placed in the rear of the pickup when, in an attempt to escape, he violently attacked police constable Marcelino Sam. Sam sustained injuries to various parts of the body, including a laceration to the back of the head.

“Marcelino Sam, a twenty-nine year old police officer, attached to the Caribbean Shores Subdivision, Eastern Division, Belize City, reported that on Friday, twenty-sixth October, at around 1:50 p.m., whilst he was on mobile patrol, he responded to a robbery report during which he detained one Gregory Bowen, thirty years-old, laborer of Belize City. As a result, Gregory and his bicycle were placed in the pan of the mobile patrol. Sam also sat in the pan of the mobile patrol and whilst they were traveling around the corner of Princess Margaret Drive and Coney Drive, Gregory Bowen reportedly pushed the bicycle with both hands, hitting Marcelino Sam on the feet, causing him to lose his balance and fall off the vehicle. As a result, San received abrasions to both elbows, knees and the back of his head. Sam was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where he is listed in a critical but stable condition. Police have since detained Gregory Bowen, thirty years-old, of Belize City for this incident.”

While Bowen has been remanded to the Belize Central Prison for the charges of attempted murder, dangerous harm and damage to property, he was not charged for the robbery. Instead, nineteen year old Lloyd Parchue, as well as a minor, has been charged for the robbery of the Moon Grocery. The pair was arraigned today before Senior Magistrate Sharon Frazer. Parchue was additionally charged with two counts of attempted murder after he discharged a firearm at police officers Renaldo Bruhier and Emelio Ack while fleeing the scene of the robbery. Before leaving court, Parchue told the senior magistrate that he had been badly beaten by the arresting officers, who reportedly threatened to kill him. The minor was remanded to the Youth Hostel, while Bowen and Parchue were re turned to custody until their next court dates on November twenty-ninth and December seventeenth, respectively.
Too bad they only beat Parchue — allegedly.
As for Bowen, his dangerous attack on an officer forfeited any concern for his safety in my eyes. Our police showed great, maybe excessive restraint taking him in in one piece.
Both of these suspects should stay in prison until dead. Our streets will be safer, and that is the greatest priority.

He might be a minor but he acts like a real grown criminal. These kind of criminals, need a good beating from the Police. They obviously didn’t get spanked when they were kids. They need to shame these guys by pulling down their pants, what almost all foolish young men do anyway by sagging, in public and giving them a good wipping. Since, they lost the shame of committing crime, reintroduce corpral punishment and do some public punishment while you are at it. This is just frustrating. Can’t imagine how difficult it must be for the police officers to deal with these people on a daily basis, especially when you know the go free again. The law has loop holes that this Prime Minister is either intentionally ignoring or he is not as smart as we all thought.
WHO was firing guns in the vicinity of Belize Elementary School, Belize High School and Edward P Yorke High School. all the students say it was the police. why discharge a firearm in such a highly populated area with children.
Good work by the cops but another example of what sounds to be poor training which could have cost an officer his life. Why wasn’t the man hand cuffed behind his back and properly secured? This is standard police procedure to not only assure the safety of the officer but also the safety of the person under arrest. We lack so many of the very basic skills.
Thats a big fat lie acording to nurses who worked on d officer when he was first brought in he clearly stated that d driver took off sudden and he fell but I guess its eaiser to make the criminal pay,its so sad cause every one is crooked these days,
i totally agree with kim. he i no murderer they know they shouldn’t be sitting there. a friend of mine said the truck was driving too fast an when they bang the curve that when he fell out. by the way how could an handcoff person shove the bike………….please tell me….those officers just need someone to blame because of there unprofessional duties that they perform…………….am still mad up to today………….peace
