N.Hway damage causes long traffic delays
If you had the need to travel on the Northern Highway between Haulover Bridge and Ladyville today, then you experienced bumper to bumper traffic as work crews sought to repair the damaged embankment between miles six and seven. According to officials from the Ministry of Works five piles were driven into the ground today, but the constant flow of vehicles traffic has been slowing down progress. We understand the plan is for work to continue tonight so that as many eleven piles can be in place by morning. Over the weekend, the workers plan to dig and install sheet piles to further bolster the shore and highway. Officials are hoping things will be back to normal by Sunday evening. On Thursday, traffic was relegated to a single lane after a chunk of the highway washed away by what is believed to be a combination of a strong current and weak seawall. Resulting traffic delays on the busy thoroughfare since then have exceeded thirty minutes in some cases.
