Warrior and Gentle charged for burglary of items valued $21,000
Thieves made away with a sizeable loot and cash of some twenty-one thousand dollars from the house of Sandra Young on Bride’s Alley. Today, two Belize City men were arraigned for burglary, conspiracy to commit burglary and handling stolen goods. Dion Warrior, Young’s neighbor and Quincy Gentle, appeared before Senior Magistrate Sharon Frazer and were arraigned with three counts of burglary, three counts of handling stolen goods, conspiracy to commit handling stolen goods and conspiracy to commit burglary. The men are accused of entering Young’s house in the morning of November twenty-second and stealing a number of items including assorted electronics and jeweler from Young, Shakira Smith and Moesha Smith.
Over one thousand, five dollars in cash were also stolen. In court, only Gentle was represented; his attorney, Brian Neal submitted that his client was not in possession of any of the stolen items, that he does not live near Young and furthermore, that if the court feels he will be a threat, conditions can be applied to his bail. Both were offered, but unable to meet bail of fifteen thousand dollars and have been remanded until January ninth, 2013.
Belize needs a “three strike law” like they have in the States to deal with career criminals. This is the third burglary by Gentle I can recall in the last year or so — how many might he have committed without getting caught? [Sure, I know he is “presumed innocent,” but I also have a lot of years of experience, and I know that where there is smoke, there almost always is fire. And God knows the truth better than any of us, and He will have the last laugh and final say.]
With a three strikes law, when a person suffers a second conviction for a serious crime like burglary, he must serve DOUBLE the normal sentence for his crime, and for a third conviction, LIFE IN PRISON.
Or maybe one day his career will end when he walks into the wrong house, and leaves it feet first because the homeowner defended himself.
