Asst. Comptroller of Customs dies from stroke
Today the flag of Belize flew at half-mass at the Customs and Excise Department as employees mourned the loss of a dedicated co-worker. On Thursday, Assistant Comptroller of Customs Arthur Leslie went to work as usual … but sometime during the day, the forty-eight year old started complaining that he was having trouble breathing. Leslie was rushed to the Belize Medical Associates but died on Sunday. Doctors have certified the cause of death as a stroke due to arterial hypertension. Known to his friends as “Art” or “Turo”, Leslie began working at Customs some thirty years ago as a clerical assistant and worked his way up the bureaucratic ladder to second in charge. Today Comptroller Gregory Gibson told News Five that Leslie was a hard worker and a friend.
