Weh di road deh to new border bridge?
Earlier on the newscast you heard about the U.S. seven point two million dollar loan that the government is receiving to upgrade roads and infrastructure. One particular piece of real estate near the border with Mexico has been under constant discussion lately. Mexico’s President Felipe Calderon is leaving office and his government has financed a new bridge to facilitate border crossing with Belize. But on Belize’s side, the infrastructure has not yet been installed. Earlier today at the House meeting, PUP Corozal South East Area Representative, Florencio Marin, asked the Prime Minister “weh di road deh?”
Florencio Marin Jr., Corozal South East
“The Mexican president, who has one more day—today is his last official day as president, President Calderon inaugurating the bridge. The only thing about that is that, if you cross the border, which I did just yesterday, we’re still using the old border and there’s still no access to the new bridge and I would like for the government to at least inform us when will this access come through? When we wah could actually begin to inaugurate it and utilize this new border complex.”
Prime Minister Dean Barrow
“The rest of the infrastructure work that we need to do on our side, is being funded by a loan that we got from CABEI, the Central American Bank of Economic Integration. Now, the processes of the bank were extraordinarily slow. In fact, when I was in Honduras, three or so weeks ago, I went to the bank and we spoke about that. But the contract has, I believe that was signed. The contractor was chosen after the tenders were opened and the letter of no objection from CABEI has been received. So the work should commence, I would imagine, within another week or so.”
If judas the talk y di lie.
First a crony has to get some dirt cheap land in the area that the road will be built.
Then he has to sell it to the government for many millions.
then a road will be built as he laughes all the way to the bank.
A trick done by all politicians in power. Look at the road to the Copper Bank ferry.
Why do we need a new road and bridge again at the Northern Border? We need a new Kendall Bridge. But I guess, screw the people in the South right?
Another loan of 7.2 million U.S. dollars? I suppose since we are already in a fathomless hole, we might as well plunge deeper… There is no use trying to get out…
why spend in a new road and bridge. start spending on ways to stop all the contraband going in to belize, right trew the border ! and u would be surprize to see who taking it in to the country
