Cayo man cleared of attempted murder charge
In court news, a resident of the Cayo District accused of attempted murder is tonight a free man following the conclusion of his trial in the Supreme Court. According to court reports, just after six on Thursday evening, a jury of his peers found twenty-eight year old Henry Baptist not guilty of the attempted murder of Kevin Diaz. On the second charge of attempted murder, this time against Victor Olivera, the members could not reach a verdict and Justice Adolph Lucas declared them a hung jury. But in doing so, Lucas pointed out that that charge could be brought against him again by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions. Baptist was arrested following an incident on November thirteenth outside a Santa Elena nightclub. The victims claimed that a masked man ambushed them in an alley and started shooting at them. Both men survived the gunshot wounds and in their report to police, claimed that the voice of their assailant belonged to Baptist. It is understood that the three men had been involved in an argument earlier that night.
