Raul, of Rose Garden fame, busted for work permits at Temptation Hill

Businessman Raul Magana Senior was slapped with a hefty fine in court today after pleading guilty to hiring a dozen women without valid work permits.  Magana’s bar and brothel, Temptation Hill, was raided by immigration officials on Wednesday night during an ongoing sting operation.  Magana and the women were escorted to court today by Immigration Officers and he appeared before Magistrate Adolph Lucas today unrepresented. He wasted no time in pleading guilty.  As a first-time offender, he told the court that he has never been brought before the magistracy for such charges and that he had applied to the Immigration Department for work permits but he was told that the department is not accepting applications at this time.  Magana was imposed a non-custodial sentence where he was fine a thousand dollars for the first count and two thousand dollars each for the remaining eleven counts.  That’s a total of twenty-three thousand dollars that must be paid by December twenty-eight and November, thirty-first, 2013.  In default of the payment he will serve a year in prison for each of the women.

Wow, no jail for a human trafficker, arrested with a dozen prostitutes working for him. He will just make the girls word harder so he can pay the fine. No wonder Belize is on the world’s watchlist for human trafficking!

If it were his first murder, would he have been released similarly with a slap on the wrist? I’m also surprised that nobody apologized to the criminal for inconveniencing him and disrupting his criminal business day.

Do we need dirty “businessmen” and their outlaw businesses living next door to us? The good people of the Jewel need to protest and target outlaw businesses like that when they are uncovered, and drive them out of their areas. If we tolerate them among us, we will only continue to descend into depravity and corruption.

I hope he doesnt start up again on Mile 8-people died, cowards proved themselves and ran, drugs dealt, aids caught and all other immorality of this word tourists got to see daily and nightly. Please stop him GOB and protect us all-do the right thing.

Will someone tell me if brothels are legal in Belize now. The government have allowed prostitution to be acceptable? Everyday I am so amazed.

  8. Elgin Martinez says:

Are these girl even of age?

  9. Ixchel Pop says:

Why are we not surprised? These girls are after a better life….Don’t worry.. the way this failed state is going it will be ur daughters and sisters who will be at the garden soon.

  10. WOW says:

Elgin, it does not matter how old they are, seems that you condone such act. These people are in the country illegally, they should be deported and they are being used as a pawn by a human trafficker. Will Belize become another Thailand where kids for prostititution? G.O.B. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS KIND OF BEHAVIOR AND ILLEGAL ACTS AND CLOSE THE BUSINESS DOWN. HUMAN TRAFFICKING IS ILLEGAL!!! This business owner knew exactly what he was doing. Take away the business license now..and do you see who are opening these businesses, people who bought their citizenships yesterday for a greedy government employee.

  11. Elgin Martinez says:

@WOW,that was weak how can you just assume that i condone such act because i asked if these girls were of age?

  12. Hypocrites says:

what about the creole girls hussling on the alley mouth, is that any different? 5 pikney fu five different man and still is a single mother who has no stable job , she just hussles. what is that? any different.

  13. marie says:

We don’t need brothels in Bz, with woemn & children being abused, we don’t need to add to Bz dilema of HIV/AIDS & single parents

  14. Bear says:

@Al is right. Let’s hear from someone in GOB whether they intentionally tolerate (maybe even receive money from?) the brothels that dot our communities — Rose Garden is far from the only notorious one.

Does GOB intend us to become Sodom and Gomorrah, “anything to make a dollar?”

    Inquiring minds want to know.

I’d like to hear even one single preacher speak out about these issues.

  15. Ixchel Pop says:

Preachers and whores have been around since antiquity; just read the bible—heck on several occasions the bible recorded that whores being the ancestress of Jesus- so lets stop trying to vilify these women. They are simply trying to make a living…if there was no market for this service it would have been out of business from a very long. Lets not try and pretend that we are righteous or that they are the ones who are degrading our society. Come on the issue is bigger than that and the religious nut jobs know that whores and gays are their scapegoats because they are the evil monsters ruining our country….Please come on concentrate on the fact that we live in a failed state and that only with a revolution will we get a chance to change things….

  16. Indian woman says:

Most of you people who always have a lot to say contribute nothing to the Belize economy. As usual… Talk a lot and nothing to offer. Raul is contributing. Tax him and his girls and go on …. That issue is like the drug issue . They cannot be stopped. Storm always have a lot of nothing to say. Seems he likes to read his words. Belize is behind the times because of all these (speakers of the house). Economy is what we need to grow. However…. As long as we are not hurting anyone. I know most of you would like for Gov to kick every foreigner out of Belize …. Then beg England or America for handout. Nothing to offer but plenty to say……
