Fry chicken dread says he’s guilty of insulting words
Paul Ferguson is back on Albert Street tonight with his fried chicken business. Earlier today, he appeared in the courtroom of Adolph Lucas Junior to answer to a single charge of insulting words. According to Special Constable Selbert Butler, Ferguson insulted him when he was being evicted from his Albert Street stand. Ferguson, who was unrepresented, pleaded guilty to the offense and was fined one hundred dollars which he was ordered to pay by January thirty-first or in default one month imprisonment. Ferguson said that he had no need to waste the court’s time in pleading not guilty as he admitted to committing the offense against Butler. He said that on Tuesday evening, at one-thirty he was selling fried chicken in the vicinity of Femina Store when Butler approached and instructed a police officer to arrest him. He said that Butler told him he needed a food handler’s license to fry his chicken on the sidewalk. Ferguson said that’s when he and Butler got into an argument. Ferguson believes it’s a malicious act against him by Butler who owns a competing business called Butler’s Delight located at the Commercial Center.
1-isnt this guy a cable guy or a bus driver? always driving around crazy?
2- Who does he think he is to just squat on public property? the other people pay trade license and rent-he wants to obstruct freeflow of people and aesthetics? If I have a store, last thing I want is greasy chicken smell in front of me- does he think this is a jungle and he can do as he wishes and flout laws? lock his @$$ up then and when he comes back-lock it down again.
3 Why doesnt BCC stop all vendors like the one that sells in front of nazarene when school is open and parks their blue van there choking and bottlenecking up a vital lane of traffic? always right in front of traffic officers who dont even give a ticket
More Belizean need to learn from him, stand for something or you’ll fall for what they tell you to do…………..stand up for your rights people.
You are one of the many business persons who are being victimized by the mayor of a town or city in Belize.
They rather you steal or sell drugs than work for a living.
Why should a free Belizean lose his freedom or be fined for speaking his mind about a public employee?
The crime of “insulting words” should never exist in Belize or any true democracy.
Again, please get rid of these antiquated colonialism-slave laws. A free man has inherent God given right of freedom of speech to assert his rights. In Belize ” insulting words ” is a crime but stealing our oil resources by Barrow is not. Belize has become so stupid not to mention CORRUPT. I think we should arrest the DPP and send her back to the Caribbean along with G, Brackett.
damn….they still have that law in Belize?
I am sure some of the top constitutional and civil liberties lawyers in the Caribbean, nay, the entire world, are members of our National Assembly.
Let just ONE of them stand up for truly free speech, and repeal the oppressive crime of “insulting words.”
Where is ANY civil liberties organization in Belize on this matter of free speech? Arresting a free Belizean for insulting words is the last resort of every bad policeman.
Guilty of insulting words, but rapists and murderers walk free laughing. Justice in Belize is a joke.
