Super Furia’s timely music for the Ba’ktun
Super Furia is one of the north’s most active bands. In September it released Long Live Belize to coincide with the independence celebrations and this week, it released a song to coincide with the end of the Mayan calendar. The family-band lead vocalists stopped by News Five to launch their latest endeavor.
Roxanna Alcoser, Vocalist, Super Furia
“The name of the band is Super Furia and we are from Orange Walk Town, Suga City. The band has been in existence a little bit over twenty-five years. I am the lead vocalist and we consist of mostly family members. My brother Francisco Alcoser Junior, he is our lead keyboard player. And the base who is Felipe Alcoser and we have an engineer who is Julio Alcoser and we also have another lead singer who is Mandito Alcoser and not family member but we take him as family member would be Kevon here. And so we are promoting our new DVDs; it is called you never know when. This is based on what is happening right now, it is in the media, you can hear it on the news. It is like oh the world will end 2012. And so the message that we have here is a little bit of comedy and seriousness; that you will never know when the world will end. The only one who knows is the almighty one.”
Kevon Baldarez, Vocalist, Super Furia
“You never know when the world will come to an end. I sit down and I talk about this song. I give wah lee idea to it that the Maya people dehn say that the world will come to an end in 2012. Well I say in the song I noh believe that. So I just sit down and put wah idea to the song and soh eh come.”
If you’d like a copy of Super Furia’s recent release, you can reach the band at 604-3486.
I like the music and strongly support local bands but boy, i felt really disrespected about Kevon’s comments. he clearly has no clue the importance of December 21st. Brother, dont believe what you hear from the media or hear and say. The Maya never said the world will come to an end. That idea or statement came from one American archaeologist who misinterpreted the maya calendar. The year 2012 in the maya culture marks a new century or era. It s like when 2000 rolled in. Please people, the world has been here for over a million years and will be here for more than that. But us people will come and go. Our live span averages 70 years while the maya era is about 400 yrs. Today is a new era and wont experience another one like today until 400 years from today. Get the story staight.
You disrepect Kevon. Pls, maya neva said world will end. American archaeologist misinterpreted calendar. Noh believe wah you hear brother. You shame me. I like you music but afta tonight, boy, you sound very silly and stupid. Read brother, read….
“I give wah lee idea to it that the Maya people dehn say that the world will come to an end in 2012.” The Mayas made no doomsday or apocalypse predictions. Get your facts straight. Its the doomsday believers and those who misinterpret the calendar that started it. Jus Sayin
