Colombian boat and crew busted in Independence

Belize has been documented as one of the transshipment points for the trafficking of drugs to the United States.  Narco-traffickers have used drug planes and boats to move shipments through Belize. Police were close on the heels of a bust but they caught the foreigners after the drop was made. On Thursday, at three p.m. four men visited the customs office at the Port of Big Creek to declare entry into Belize. Customs personnel alerted the Independence Police and as a result, two Special Branch Police officers visited Big Creek where customs handed over thirty five year old Cessar Godoy, twenty-four year old Lester Davis, and forty two year old Iron Santos; all alleged Honduran nationals as well as thirty year old John Balamba, a Colombian national. We say that three of the men are allegedly Honduran nationals because investigators suspect that all four men are from South America. An investigation was conducted which led to a fifty feet vessel anchored in Independence Village next to the Hokey Pokey water terminal taxi. Inside the boat were three large plastic drums with four vests, a rope, a five gallon bottle, two water gallons, a radio antenna, and a large battery. All four men had passports and cellular phones and the Colombian was in possession of U.S. currency and Colombian dollars. A special Branch officer, Corporal Manzanero was brought in to interrogate the four men and conduct a detailed investigation as to what they were doing in Independence. Investigators compare this incident to another bust that occurred on June twenty-eighth, 2011 when three Colombians were busted at a farmhouse two miles northwest of Independence Village with cocaine hidden inside an icebox. No official report has been sent from the police regarding the four men who were caught on Thursday.

    Let them rot in jail.

  2. Marion says:

Good critical thinking, hope they SAFEGUARD the evidence & keep the DRUGS to pay the NATIONAL DEBT & not go into individuals BANK ACCOUNT.

I am happy that some of our security forces are trying hard to fight the cartels. I wish thety had better, up-to-date equipment so they could win more victories.

I think one or two seaplanes could really secure our waters, because no drug boat could outrun them, and they could not make their drops before being caught. I’m sure if we asked for them from the US, or maybe Brits, we could acquire them eventually.

Good going, guys — and Merry Christmas to all the good guys!

Well, maybe good. Bustd after the drop? Did they recover the drop, or witness it? Let’s see what the follow-up reports reveal.

DEA Baby! That is who we need to help us combat this epidemic. cant do it on the resources that we have.

  6. confused says:

People, is it me or is it you who cannot read and understand? The news report said nothing about recovering any drugs, it said police caught four people that check in with Customs/Immigration… what i read between the ;line is that the Belize Security Forces is making a big scandal about nothing…the news is saying that the four men probably brought in a large quantity of drugs , and dispose of it (quite possible with the help of High Ranking Belizeans Individuals ) and they are making a puppet show to confuse people or to let the DEA think that they are trying to stop the illegal importation/transhipment of drugs via Belize to Mexico/USA

  7. BUSTED? says:

    For what?
    Having Passports?
A jug of water on a boat?
Life vests on a boat, or is it having a radio?
They are on a boat, they stop at customs to register, this got to be crooked big time, why bother registering?

I guess I am missing evidence of a crime.

How about those Belize cops acquitted, having airplane fuel, scuba gear, portable runway lights, in Toledo at 3am near $200m of cocaine flown in on an airplane that gets stuck in the middle of the southern highway. Nothing unusual their, prosecution agrees nothing suspicious with these guys, get their job back, they should be running Belize police drug enforcement. The country is a joke.

Poor pilot, his cartel masters must have killed him by now. At least no one in government got harmed, or their families. Must be a slow murder-pedophilia day for this story to be news.

What is the latest for GOB corruption? Who is selling Hezbollah passports and driver licenses?
How about that criminal eyezzon music festival in Cayo, who in GOB is really behind that?
