Swazo sentenced to ten years for manslaughter

A man who pled guilty to manslaughter last month received his sentence today following pleas for mitigation. Twenty year old Andre Swazo was originally charged with murder in the April 2005 killing of Merton Castillo but last month agreed to a plea bargain conviction for manslaughter. Following favourable character testimony by Ports Commissioner Lloyd Jones, former chairman of Lord’s Bank Village Leonard Usher and prison official Colive Casimiro, Justice Troadio Gonzalez sentenced Swazo to ten years in jail, effective from today. Swazo shot Castillo following an argument over Castillo’s treatment of Swazo’s sister Nicole, the mother of Castillo’s child.
