P.M. also speaks of recent shooting at home of Said Musa
The prime minister also spoke of the recent shooting of his predecessor Said Musa on Tuesday night. Musa told the media at a solidarity gathering at P.U.P. Headquarters that the threats he received in December were not related to the actual attack. He claimed that his gut instinct was that the shooting was not for the purpose of extortion, but was instead a hit. Prime Minister Barrow, however, says he does not feel inclined to speculate about the motive, but the seriousness of the situation cannot be downplayed. For context we bring you former Prime Minister Musa’s comments at the solidarity session Thursday and what the prime minister thinks of the shooting.
Said Musa, Former Prime Minister
“They figure if they send it to me as the former Prime Minister it will get back to all of us to understand, to the whole political class if you like, in this country that listen, you all might think that you can control the situation here, but we can decide when and where and who to hit when we want.”
Prime Minister Dean Barrow
“That development is extremely unwelcomed; has to be taken with the utmost seriousness—not just in terms of the state providing some kind of security for the former Prime Minister and perhaps looking at what may be needed to be done for all politicians—but it gives an added sense of urgency to the mandate that we have to generally do better with respect to crime prevention, with respect to crime detection and with respect to the mission to attack the underlying causes of this outrageous phenomenon that we are seeing so that as a country, as a nation, as a society we might do better.”
Notably, while the Prime Minister was holding his meeting with Civil Society at the Biltmore Plaza, his personal security and the security presence at the hotel were visibly enhanced.
Sad to say but times have changed indeed. People sick and tired of all the lies and thiefing from all the politicians pup and udp. They are now ready to take out their frustration in this way. Politicians – you need to do the right thing by the people.
So now you address the public, only after the recent attempt to kill Musa??? Come on Mr. Barrow, after all the previous murders, that seems to occur almost on a daily basis, you decide to come out,and speak about how to protect your oolitrikans???? When will you address the entire nation of Belize and tell them your plans to help protect the othet citizens of Belize????
***POLITRICANS***
I wish you well Mr Barrow in tackling the atrocities, crime, corruption and injustice, so rife in Belize right now.
Of course something should have been done about the escalating crime rate long long ago, however its better late than never. You are a strong and decisive man. I hope you can find a direction to lead an unhappy and tired nation to a better tomorrow.
look, its sad what the country has become but its all thanks to Dean Barrow. He is the one that taught people on how to strike, how to participate in civil disobedience and now its biting him back. Said Musa is a great leader a man that fears no one, because he did no wrong. he never did have bodyguards when he was PM or now. Unlike barrow, that has a host of bodyguards to protect his sorry @$$!
I’m deeply sadden to say that our Prime Minister (PM) and Minister Finnigan also the Minister of National Security are very weak in making decision regarding national security. I personally belive that they are afraid of these gangs. They should resign, they are not fit to govern this country (BELIZE).Citizen of our beloved Belize wake up we need strong leaders to govern, Belize are hurting on the International scale, our economy is suffering because our present (PM and his Ministers are weak they need to go.
A wake up call for all politicians and their ‘inner circle’ – both PUP & UDP.
JUST TO SAY THAT BARROW IS A MAN WITH NO ….. !!!
KNEELING TO GANGS !!!
YOU HAVE NO ….. BARROW !!!
PUT ON A DRESS !!!
THIS NATION DESERVES A MAN IN PANTALLONES !!!
Yet again……..
Musa is trying his best to make himself into the victim!
I would not be surprised if the truth came out and it indicated that said musa set up this hold thing to garner political mileage
Buju, I’ve had the same suspicion. It will be interesting to see what facts develop — if any.
