Dara Robinson wants you to come out and give
He is known for his humanitarian efforts and for a feeding program that won him the title as Unsung Hero for 2011. Dara Robinson, for the past six years, has been assisting needy kids from the south side attending school in the King’s Park Area. The students receive daily a healthy meal from the program. But every year, Ras Dara as he is also known, hosts a concert in tribute to Bob Marley in February. The funds gathered from the concert as well as food items are distributed to families and used for the feeding program. Robinson says that on Wednesday, he will be at the MCC tennis court from ten a.m. to receive donations from the public in support of his program.

“I usually ask for lone can foods, but this time I di ask fi sugar, powder milk, even vegetables. I will be ready to receive everything tomorrow at the MCC Tennis Court from one o’clock to ten o’clock. It is a stressful work, but I get my own blessing ina my own way to do it. And I di try make we as Belizean; off of the name of the show is Belizean’s unite. Although I did have the music and the video and thing, I want people fi come out and bring something fi drop ina the barrel. Even if you bring one potato or wah onion, just bring something; don’t come empty-handed. Dah wah struggle. Right now I wish I could have a serious sponsor that would fund into that so I don’t have to go through the lotta lee work and stress weh I go through. But one thing weh keep me strong; that I’ve been doing thing for family and nobody give me more love and respect like when I help wah child and the feeding. Kids in the program and weh left the program, the respect they give yo. I did champion it; me one can’t do it. I di do it as an example so other people can get involved.”
The eleventh annual Bob Marley Tribute Concert will be held on Saturday in Orange Walk and on Sunday, in Belize City at the MCC Grounds for an entrance fee of five dollars. If anyone would like to donate to the cause, you can contact Robinson at 623-3662.
