Belize City Council plans Christmas light parade
Most attention has been focussed on the Garifuna Settlement Day holiday, but this week the Belize City Council is getting a head start on preparations for the Christmas season. According to Councillor Laura Esquivel, the council has planned several activities to brighten up the old capital.

?As you know, the City Council is pretty strapped for cash, so we are finding ways that we can do free activities that families and the kids can come out see it, and also activities that will still end up giving back to the community.?
?Our first activity is on the second of December. It will be held at the B.T.L. Constitution Park, it?s the Christmas tree lighting ceremony and that?s being sponsored for us by Bowen and Bowen and B.T.L. On the fifteenth of December we have another event sponsored by Bowen and Bowen, which will be a carolling night in front of Battlefield Park on Albert Street in that area. And the culmination of our events will be the Christmas fantasy in lights parade, which will be on December twenty-third. It?s gonna be at night and it?s gonna be a parade where people must enter their bicycles down to flatbeds all covered in lights.?
Application forms for entry in the light parade are available at the third floor of the Commercial Centre and at City Hall. Entrance fee will not be money, instead participants are being asked to donate canned goods and toys which will be passed on to the Salvation Army. Deadline to enter to the parade is December sixth.
