Murder suspect rearrested after chase in Brodies
On Thursday, he walked out of court a free man but tonight forty-one year old Hubert Bennett is recovering from injuries he sustained trying to elude police custody. Acting on instructions from the Crimes Investigation Branch, around noon today officers spotted Bennett near the Belize City Magistrate’s Court and attempted to detain him on a charge of murder. But the wanted man took off and tried to lose the pursuing officers in Brodies. He didn’t get out the building though as Bennett hit the glass doors between the pharmacy and the department store head on, cutting his face and hands. The bleeding man was taken to hospital for treatment and later formally rearrested on the charge of Murder. Bennett was also charged with Damage to Property for breaking Brodies’ glass door. Tonight we understand that the unwilling witness that forced prosecutors to enter a nolle prosequi motion yesterday has had a change of heart. Bennett is accused of stabbing Tiquon Emmanuel to death over a bicycle in August 2005 at the International Players Pub.
