Petters plots strategy for education initiative

Story PictureEducation officials met in Belmopan this morning as part of ongoing efforts by the Petters Research Institute to improve the quality of classroom instruction to primary school students. President of the Institute, Dr. Arlie Petters and his team conducted a countrywide survey during the summer holidays and determined that teacher re-education and standardized textbooks are vital to student success, especially in national exams. Petters says his dream is to turn Belize into a first world country using its human resources.

Dr. Arlie Petters, President, Petters Research Institute
?We aim to see Belize transition from an eco-based service economy to a digital economy. This will require creating a first rate science and technology educational environment. One that simultaneously promotes innovation, inspires entrepreneurship and spawns economic growth. I am talking about an educational environment that will create new industries but attract multi-national high-tech companies to invest in a digital Belize.?

As part of the re-education project, laptop computers as well as DVDs in math and science would be distributed to teachers. That said, officials of the Petters Research Institute are now in the process of securing funding for that initiative in time for the next academic year.
