Argument over video game ends in fatal stabbing
As we have already seen, fatal violence comes in many different varieties. On Friday night it was a simple argument that resulted in death of a Belize City youth.
Arlene Sentimento, Family Friend of the Deceased
?I couldn?t handle hearing it on a hold, so I had to come home and find out if it was true. I couldn?t believe that it was true because I had just scene him the day. So I couldn?t believe that that could have happened that quick.?
Jacqueline Godwin, Reporting
Nineteen year old Kent Pandy is the person police say stabbed eighteen year old Allen Sutherland in the neck after the young men got into an argument over a video game around seven on Friday evening. The deceased?s family says Sutherland had sold the video game to Pandy but when he went to collect his money, Pandy refused to pay him.
Merdith Staine, Aunt of the Deceased
?His brother told me that he sold this video game to this young man and when he went to collect the young man refused to pay. That is where the argument started and I think that my nephew didn?t expect that that young man was going to stab him, because as far as I understand he didn?t stab him face to face. He rode off and then he turned back and then on his bicycle he just fired the stab and probably he thought that he wasn?t going to die either.?
Sutherland was stabbed in the area of Boots Crescent on the city?s south side. The young man?s family is having a very difficult time coping with the tragedy because they say Sutherland, who they described as a well mannered young man who loved to play video games, was in looking forward to the future.
Merdith Staine
?As far as I know he was my nephew and I loved him dearly. I didn?t know him as somebody that was violent or anything. I really can?t understand the reason why they took his life so young.?
Today Kent Pandy was escorted to Magistrate?s Court where he was arraigned on the charge of Murder.
The murders on Friday night and this afternoon in Belize City were numbers seventy-two and seventy-three for the year.
