A new book to add to your collection

Belize has an ever increasing number or musicians and artists, but one art form that has not moved at a similar pace is writing. Zee Edgell still holds prominence as Belize’s best known author but while Edgell writes fiction, a teacher at a Belize City High School is making strides in the self-help genre. News Five Jose Sanchez reports.

Stanley Saunders is the author of Developing a spiritual Warfare Mentality in the Midst of the Valley.

“The reason why I chose the title was because when I look at the term spiritual warfare, it has to do with a battle of thoughts. You’re battling to have the right mentality because as you look at the world, it’s easy to get discouraged. And so therefore spiritual warfare is when you begin to battle to have the right thoughts; thoughts that are positive especially in the midst of a difficult situation. So I call the book, Developing a Spiritual Warfare Mentality in the Midst of the Valley, because a valley is really a low place and when you find yourself at a low place that is when it gets the most challenging to have the right mentality.”

Saunders, a teacher at Gwen Lizarraga High School, believes the message for his students and his readers is one of hope.

“It needs to be driven in every single environment because it is not a book that is limited to a particular sector, but it is a book that applies to all sector, every aspect of society. Everywhere we go we see people struggling to make the right choices. Most of the content in the news is about people who have really struggled to make the right choices. Most of the content is about choices; people who make the wrong choices in life. I want people to understand that there is hope cause I know that a lot of people right now are going through some very difficult time. And people find themselves in certain predicament because of two reasons—sometimes we make bad choices or sometimes we face difficulties and trials because it just happens. So regardless of where you find yourself; if you find yourself in a situation where you have made bad choices, I want you to know that there is hope. Now you can begin to make proper choices in your life. You find yourself in a situation whereby you are not sure why this happened to you, now is the time for you to be able to reflect on your life and begin to look deeper into your life and begin to find purpose. Why am I going through this? Why am I going through that? Begin to see that there is a purpose attached to your trial. And you must begin to understand that purpose so you don’t get frustrated because a lot of time people become frustrated when they are facing things especially when they didn’t do anything to cause the situation. So I want people to know that there is hope regardless of what you are facing in your life.”
