M.O.H. confirms death of Toledo teen due to chronic disorder

The Ministry of Health is tonight confirming the death of a seventeen year old from the Toledo District due to a chronic disorder. We reported on Wednesday night that seventeen year old Milka Sho had died over the weekend in Golden Stream and that she was laid to rest on Tuesday. The village alcalde, Alfonso Cal, transported the body to the Punta Gorda Hospital. Cal told News Five that the parents claimed that the young girl had a history of consuming soap. In confirming her death, the Ministry today issued its medical findings. According to the report, Milka first visited the Big Falls Health Center last March, and was as treated for a chronic abdominal condition and released. When she returned to the clinic three days later on twenty-second March, she was diagnosed with the chronic disorder. The report further states that the patient received a blood transfusion at that time and was hospitalized for a week at the Punta Gorda Hospital for observation and then released. This past Sunday, Milka died and her body was transported to the hospital. The Ministry says that her father reported that two days before she had consumed a very large amount of soap powder detergent. As to the matter of an autopsy, the ministry says it was not required because two medical officers examined the body and found no sign of external injuries. Additionally, due to her clinical history and her father’s account, the medical officers felt confident to issue a death certificate.
what the hell is a chronic disorder, that is not an acceptable cause of death in the medical community. Belize should not be called a country, the MOH should be ashamed to put out this press release. Peter Allen and the Hon Min are a disgrace to medicine in this country, AIDS is rampant, dengue is killing people and no reporting, horse encephalitis, mothers butchered in OW hospital. worst health minister ever!!!
So sad for the family. Whatever the cause, condolences for them and prayers for the young child’s soul.
@dactafly is correct. I assume the press release became necessary because somebody realized they broke the law by not having a post mortem, so they want to bury their mistake. I hope DPP will look at the handling of the case.
The news report the night before said the girl had PICA. Which if you do not know about, you should look up. It is a chronic disorder that causes the person to want to consume basically any and everything. She was known to have PICA. A little boy in the US ate his bedspread, his walls, the floor, and they fundraised $100,000 to build him a completely inedible room so that he would not die from eating material of normal walls and all that stuffing inside the walls. Look it up. Let’s stop blaming any and every government for all our problems and take some responsibility ourselves. Obviously soap powder would kill someone as it is not meant for human consumption. They knew she ate it and she died as a result. There was no hiding that she had the disease. Come on people, read and research a little.
@Mo , reading wikipedia does not make you any more educated, you must work for this corrupt useless government. No doctor can look at a patient and determine she died from Pica , your IQ is probably around the Min of Health’s. a proper past mortem is needed to scientifically determine the cause of death. If this was the relative of a Belize City UUDP bigwig there would have been two PMs. check the health services to the entire PG district, neglect, neglect, neglect.
It is sad, that she passed away, my sincere sympathy to the family for that great lost, may God be with them.
I believe that if, her mental health was addressed and treated in time, she would still be with us. I know that she did not get the treatment she deserved, but i do not blamed the medical staff, I blame the inadequate Medical equipment, training to handle such situations.
The heads at MOH, instead of helping the medical staff, always short change the people, by looking at there own need. I can say this as I work with them.
