Cop’s perjury trial about ‘the bearded man’
Nine days after the beginning of the trial against forty-six year old former police officer, Anthony Polonio, he was acquitted of Perjury. Polonio appeared before Justice Troadio John Gonzalez who today directed the jury of eight women and one man to find him not guilty. Polonio’s attorney, Simeon Sampson last Friday, submitted that there was no case since the prosecution had failed to prove that Polonio committed any such offense in the 2007 trial. During the manslaughter trial against Chayben Bou-Nahra, a well-known businessman, Polonio and two other officers: Darious Ramos and Clement Cacho testified that they could not identify Bou-Nahra who allegedly shot and killed Shawn Copious on his property in 2005. When Polonio was asked in the trial why he wasn’t able to identify Bou-Nahra, he said that the person known to him as Bou-Nahra, had a long beard and was dressed raggedy but looked differently on the day of the trial back in 2007 when he was acquitted Polonio dashed out of court as a free man.
That’s a raggedy tale.
Why could not the DPP and judge have had Bou-Nahra fingerprinted in court, to prove he was the same person arrested and fingerprinted at jail? Any of us reading this item could have proved who he was with an ounce of commonsense.
But Polonio is dishonest and a disgrace, so I hope his karma follows him to the end, just as it did Bou-Nahra. Few things are worse than dirty cops.
what didn we expect??? a conviction??? Cmon people are we so naive???
If we cant convict murderers caught with a smoking gun, corrupt govnt officials that turned MILLIONAIRES in their 5 year period in government, “doctors” that cause death by gross negligence and ….. the list goes on….
what should we expect to happen with lying police officers????……Convict them for having “really baaad memory”….jajajaja….. make my day!!!!
Belize cannot even convict a dirty cop. No wonder our conviction rate is so dismal.
We all wonder why Belize is the way it is, this is a prime example why. Down right Low life of a cop and obviously paid off to keep his mouth shut. If only he would be like that when he is on duty and forget to be a ignorant and Be A POLICEMAN. Really do hope one day things would change.
Guess what, this man will probably be hired into another government job. This is a case for all suspects who are brought in for questioning be photographed and printed. In police work you have to record everything, on paper,on recordings, in pictures, in finger prints, anything that will help in the identification process. When will this police department learn how to do their jobs.
IF POLICE DO THEIR JOBS, MONEY WILL NOT FLOW.
