Accused Cayo bandit jumps bail
A Guatemalan accused in a number of attacks against Cayo resorts, tour guides and tourists in the Cayo district has skipped bail. In July thirty year old Henry Gonzalez was one of three men charged with abetment to commit robbery in connection with the armed hold up of the Banana Bank resort in February. Subsequently, Belmopan resident Angel Frederick Burns posted bail for the accused in the sum of five thousand dollars. But when Gonzalez failed to show up to court today, Chief Magistrate Herbert Lord issued a bench warrant for his arrest. Gonzalez, Marco Javier Chiquin Molina and Geronimo Cortez were charged jointly with the Banana Bank raid in which U.S. and Canadian visitors were robbed of more than fourteen thousand dollars of cash and valuables. Molina and Cortez remain incarcerated at Hattieville Prison. Their next court date has been set for December fifteenth.
