Architects hired for long delayed sports arena
It was promised several years ago in conjunction with a visit by the president of Taiwan … but like many capital projects in these days of reduced financial expectations, the new indoor arena has yet to rise from the wide open spaces of the Marion Jones Sporting Complex. Today, however, the ten million dollar project made a small step toward reality, as a consultancy agreement for the building’s design was signed between Government and the firm of Anthony Thurton and Associates. The air conditioned facility will have a seating capacity for four thousand spectators and will include wooden multi-purpose courts, locker rooms and training areas. According to a Press Office release, construction will commence early in the new year. Viewers should be reminded that in a story dated September third, 2004, Government said exactly the same thing.
