Corozal man faces Attempted Murder charge
A Corozal man has been arrested for firing on a police officer during a drug raid last week. Forty-six year old Arnaldo Solana has been charged with Attempted Murder for allegedly firing a shotgun at Constable Joseph Gilharry. The incident took place early Friday morning as police sought to secure a marijuana plantation off the Consejo Road. Gilharry has been released from the hospital following injuries to his shoulder and face.
In other crime news, three citizens of Iraq are cooling their heels in the remand section of Hattieville Prison. The men were arrested at the Western Border when found to be in possession of phony Belize passports. It should be noted that these passports were not real Belizean passports that may have been stolen from the Immigration Department, but instead, poorly made imitations. It is believed that the Iraqis had fled their wartorn country and hoped to make it to the United States where they would find shelter with relatives. It was probably a good thing for the trio–and Belize–that they were busted here and not trying to swim the Rio Grande.
