Shot in Ladyville

While Leon Humes was fatally shot, less than twenty-four hours later three persons in Ladyville survived a barrage of bullets that headed their way when they stood across a popular supermarket on the highway. A thirteen-year old female student from Nazarene High School, another minor and Errol Andrews were waiting for a bus when someone opened fire at them. Duane Moody has this story from Ladyville where violence is on an upward trend.

Around seven-thirty on Saturday night, the hustle and bustle in Ladyville was shattered when at least eight shots rang out across from the popular grocery store, Low’s Supermarket. Twenty-five year old Errol Andrews and two minors—a sixteen and a thirteen year old—were injured. Andrews was shot to the right thigh while the sixteen year old was hit to the left side of the chest and left shoulder.

“Close to six the evening I was watching TV when I saw a vehicle I didn’t recognize parked near the bus stop when the people inside the vehicle began shooting at some men that were there and some were injured. The vehicle hurriedly sped off while continuing to shoot at the people near the bus stop. Police responded to scene and took the injured people away. There were four persons, two of which ran away from the scene towards the bushes which towards the left back end of the bus stop and when the gun shots stopped, they emerged from the bushes as the police arrived.”

According to police, a heavily tinted black car drove pass the group awaiting a bus to Belize City; and someone from inside unleashed the hail of bullets at the group and sped off. One of the bullets penetrated a nearby food stand and was lodged inside a comal.

And my friend’s pickup truck’s glass was shattered by a bullet. A bullet also penetrated the kitchen wall of Dora’s bar.”

The third person hit in the shooting was a thirteen year old first form student of Nazarene High School in Belize City. She had just left her mother’s house just two blocks away from where the incident happened. She was waiting to catch a bus to the city when she was shot to both legs.

It would have been nice to have some description of the crime vehicle in this report. Any working surveillance cameras near the bust stop?

If the shooter had better aim, we could have 4 dead instead of wounded, so let’s make sure the attackers die before this case is over. Put our best police on the job and just crush them, we’ll all thank the police if they do that.

Killing has become a sport in the city now, it is the great pass time. It defies my thinking that a group of men can sit down and make plans to go out and just shoot or kill people. Is there not one person to say this is wrong. Time for a change in the country.
