Sadie Vernon students look at careers
For most high school students life is complicated enough without having to worry about making a living when you grow up. But reality being what it is, it never hurts to think about a future career.

Today, the students of Sadie Vernon Technical High School took time out from their regular classes to participate in their first career day. The activity featured two activities: a career fair and job shadowing.
Whether these students were looking to pursue a career in fire fighting, the Belize Defence Force, the arts, interior decorating, cosmetology or cooking, the young men and women enjoyed the educational tour that included some hands on experience.

?And what we were hoping for at Sadie Vernon is to have a fair where we can feature live professions from traditional and non-traditional career options. So that our young people have an idea of what is available in Belize. They can interview these professions and find out what are the possibilities and what are the trainings necessary for them to pursue such a career.?
School counsellor and activity coordinator Cherene Valerio says it was the students who gave her an idea of what career booths should be offered.

?There is a class called personal development that?s offered to the first and second form students and within that class we also have a component which is called career development. That is where students are able to explore what are some of their interests, what are some of their values and also discuss some of their career interests. And based on those sessions we decided what we would feature for our career fair.?
The students celebrated their career day under the theme “Whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve.”
