Tanya Carter’s new song, Ex-boyfriend

Belizean singer, Tanya Carter  has opened for Etana, Luciano, Lexxus and Morgan Heritage, so it’s not unusual that she has flown to Jamaica, the home of reggae music to work with some of the best producers on the island. She has collaborated with Christopher Birch of Birchill Records, who produced and co-wrote her newest single, Ex-boyfriend. Earlier today, News Five spoke to Carter via phone about the release of the music video for her new song.

“The name of the song is ex boyfriend and the song is about not really fully closing the door with the ex-boyfriend and it’s kinda like making the female, the girl or myself still wanting the ex-boyfriend when I’m going out with the current boyfriend. So it’s like kinda a little dilemma that allows me to go in my mind back and forth between me and the boyfriend. I came to Jamaica to do a promotional tour. When I came the first time in Jamaica which was in January I was only recording and getting a feel of the producers here and which I fell in love with Christopher Birch and his whole way of dealing with music that I just decided to stick with Christopher Birch. So at this present moment we are doing the rounds, we are getting the work in and spreading the name of Tanya Carter all the way from Belize in Jamaica—getting them familiarized with me, my music, my country and that we do reggae as well.”

“How long will you stay be in Jamaica and what different venues are you planning to promote your music?”

“Well right about now, I’ve been here from last week Wednesday and I’m gonna be here for maybe ten years more. We have a whole lot of places, interviews, a lot of morning shows, a lot of radio interviews; right now I am currently in the Jamaican Observer, which is awesome. And I have a gig this Friday at Magnum King and Queen for which I am very excited—this is Saturday night. We are just basically getting out there and the reception is amazing and the Jamaican people are really feeling me and feeling the music and feeling the vibe that I am singing so I am very grateful for that. We definitely have to do an album with these songs. So we are leaning towards an album yes, but we are focusing on the single and getting the word out and getting Tanya; Tanya Carter from Belize out there into Jamaica and into the Caribbean.”

Christopher Birch has been quoted to say that Tanya is “a real artiste, a great singer with the full package, she writes, she harmonizes, she is very talented and it was a pleasure working with her…We have plans for more tunes, and the next one is very catchy, so Jamaica needs to watch for Tanya.”  Her next song to be released is called Secret.
