Two arrested for arson/murder
Belize City police have arrested two men they strongly believe are responsible for the gruesome murder of twenty-five year old Honduran national Gerson Javier Hernandez Ramos. This morning twenty-three year old Andrew Carillo, a Belizean and Guatemalan national twenty-year old Alex Bautista were taken over to Magistrate’s Court where they were arraigned on charges of Murder and Arson. Police say sometime between Thursday night and early Friday morning Hernandez was stabbed to death and his body set on fire inside the building in which he resided at number 1A Victoria Street. At the crime scene police found a blood trail in several rooms that makes them believe the victim may have struggled with his attackers before he was murdered and his body dragged to a hallway where it was later found. Authorities say a total of four different small fires were set in an attempt to burn down the house in order to destroy evidence. Police say at this time they have no motive for the crime but that they are investigating the killing from all angles including the possibility that it may be gang related. The symbol MS 13, which is the name of a notorious Central American gang, was found drawn on a glass above the front door.
