Fonseca asks for Elrington’s removal as Foreign Minister

Francis Fonseca

And even as the People’s United Party claims that it has been acting in good faith, and Guatemala has been acting in bad faith, Fonseca also reserved some special time for an opinion on Minister of Foreign Affairs Wilfred Elrington. He claims that Elrington has been doing a disservice to the country and should be removed.

Francis Fonseca, Leader of the Opposition

“With the greatest of respect to him in his capacity of the Foreign Minister of this country, I believe he has done a grave disservice to the nation of Belize and to the people of Belize. He has made a lot of offhanded comments that I believe have not served Belize’s national interest. And I think the overall handing of this entire matter by the Government of Belize and by his ministry in particular, leaves a lot to be desired. And it is no surprise for me therefore that wherever I go, Belizeans have very little confidence in the Foreign Minister of Belize. We saw it reflected last week in the Amandala Newspaper; in effect calling for his removal. I think he has been out of touch with the Belizean people on this matter for a very long time and that has not serve Belize’s interest well.”

Another major position that the P.U.P. announced is that if the government accedes to any of the demands of Guatemala, the Opposition will withdraw its participation in the process which means that bipartisanship in this national issue is at risk.

Elrington is a disgrace to his party, to his govt., to his family’s name and must of all, to the Belizean people. Yes, Elrington must resign or be removed.

It’s about time unu come out and do something right.

  3. Belizean Pride says:

I wouldn’t budge either but rather feel a relief if sedi just resign like the pope knowing that he can’t handle the job at this point, we need someone with the heart of Belizean and willing to work hard for the interest of the Jewel so as to earn that good reputation that a foreign minister should have.
Sedi if you want the respect just resign and we the Belizean people will give you the respect. a man of integrity is when he accepts his failure which make him a better man.

Something clearly is wrong with Sedi, and I’m sure most UDP and PUP people feel that way. He can barely put two sensible sentences in a row. We need a statesman, wise and looking to the future, as a Foreign Minister, and he will never be one.

  9. Former PUP says:

I hate the PUP puttign their nose on these things, Let the man do its work, that is why i was a strong PUP Before but Musa & Fonseca has really hurt the PUP party, why they are not removed from the party, PUP is not the party it used to be. The day they remove fonseca and Musa, i will go back to PUP, hopefully it goes back to what it used to be before.

    Former PUP supporter …

  10. Admittedly-Leaning-Blue says:

@Former PUP, according to the last elections, at least 48% of the electorate, probably more if u account for electoral shenanigans, WANT the PUP to have a voice in the debate. Its called being a responsible opposition party!

I do agree about Musa though….but he aint as bad as the red gang leader. And Francis has more class than both.
