Musician sings songs for the soul with Christian music

Carter is not the only singer who is blessing the ears of the public. This past weekend, many local artists took the spotlight at the Belizean Music Awards which catered to several genres. The Belizean flavor has been known to spice up reggae, RnB and Punta and Soca. Christian artist and Roaring Creek youth, Dennis Requeña this week stopped by our studio with his new album, titled A Better Place. It’s a special blend of religion, patriotism and socially conscious vibes and Requena told us that’s what he’s all about.

Dennis Requeña, Artist

“I’ve been in the music business for over ten years, it is something that I put all my heart into, and it is always something that I want to push forward. The main people that know me is from the Christian scene when it comes to music, but now I also focus, apart from doing Christian songs, I also focus on some songs that look at reality, like what we as Belizeans are going through, and address it, so when Belizeans listen, they can say oh yes, this young man is speaking things that we are going through, so it’s all positive, nothing negative out of the way but just to speak the truth of what we’re going through as a country. It has eleven tracks, and there are many songs that you can look forward to. There’s this song Addicted to Belize that I mentioned earlier that is really hitting the country because it plays on the big stations. And also a next one that I have is called Belize Belongs to We which is a song, a really mellow piano song but it has a strong message. And one more song that I wanna talk about is a song that says They Can’t Trick Us No More…why, because we as Belizeans our eyes are opened up so just like musicians try to move forward in the music business our eyes are opened up to see what’s happening in society so that we make wiser choices.”

If you’d like to purchase a CD, you can do so in Roaring Creek at Garbutt’s Gas Station, Mervin’s Barbershop or at Venus Photos and Records in San Ignacio or you can call Requena at 664-4038.
