Hot Mama?s take softball tournament
Good evening. I?m James Adderley, so pull up for this current splash of Sports Monday, into your living room. Week nine of the Regent Cup Tournament brought Hankook Verdes of San Ignacio to the M.C.C. Grounds in a match against F.C. Belize as both ball clubs looked to take sole control of second place in the standings behind Wagiya as we head to play-offs.
For F.C. Belize the w is imperative which motivates Deon Flowers to launch this bomb in a bid for the early goal.
Nevertheless, we?re just fifteen minutes into the ballgame when Jeromy James speeds past is man right side to launch this grass head burner that maybe James Brooks should have handled. But it?s the host team with a 1-zip lead.
F.C. Belize looks to make it a 2-nil lead when Cristobal Gilharry finds the head of Jeromy James, but this time he fails to make the conversion.
The visitors finally get something offensive coming off this corner kick that finds Everard Torres, but he comes up short.
At the other end James gets another chance at goal, but this time the ball raises over the crossbar at the half F.C. Belize still shows a 1-zip lead.
Meanwhile, folks we?re three minutes into second half when Marcos Souto leads this set piece to Deon McCauly who does what he does best as the city team goes up 2-zip.
Verdes responds with this fine set from Ricardo Jimenez, but Anthony Gonzalez misses the target.
Veteran Earl Peters then decides to bomb from long range only to see Charlie Slusher make the necessary intervention.
The west keeps the pressure on with this nice move by Derys Benavidez which ends in a screamer just outside the sticks.
At the seventy-third minute Deon McCauly?s launches this right foot that the defence fails to clear and McCauly?s second try gives him his second goal of the match as F.C. Belize goes on to post the convincing 3-zip victory.
In other action around the league, break out the champagne for Alpha of O.W. who got their first season win with a 1-zip w over the Bandits at Belmopan.
The situation for Acros Lake remains the same. They absorb a 2-zip lashing from Wagiya yesterday at the M.C.C. Grounds to remain winless with one week of regular season play remaining.
Thus going into week ten the standings shows Wagiya on top with twenty-one points, F.C. Belize has stepped up to second place with seventeen points, Hankook Verdes falls to third with sixteen points and Belmopan Bandits are stalled at eleven points. But all four teams have made the post season. Alpha of Orange Walk who will not go to the big dance now shows six points after grabbing its first season win, leaving Acros Lake of Belize in the cellar with no wins and three points.
Looking to the schedule Alpha will host F.C. Belize at the People Stadium at four p.m. this Saturday. Hankook Verdes will be at home against Acros Lake on Sunday, and Belmopan Bandits travel to Dangriga for its date with Wagiya.
In basketball news, the over thirty-five basketball competition at Big Birds Isle continued to roll over the weekend. Belmopan Bandits got twenty-three points from Caesar Jones to over run Early-Risers Wheels 65 to 40. Kulture Builders needed overtime to edge Fayah Haat Carnation 56 to 55, while Postman Estrada threw up seventeen points as Alberts stopped Bulls 58 to 48.
On Wednesday night?s schedule at Big Birds Isle Alberts will take on Carnation and Bandits will aim at Builders.
Turning to the softball scene, the fourth C.L.B. Rogers Memorial Tournament reigned supreme inside the Rogers Stadium over the weekend. We join the action as Lady Rebels try to get past Survivors of Boom to arrive inside the finals against Hot Mama?s already waiting in the win.
We?re in the bottom of the seventh with Boom up 5 to 4, when Jacqueline Cassasola gets Yvette Martinez to fly-out.
She then gets Sherraine Westby to hit an easy infield roller for the throw out at first base. And for the final out, makes easy work Marsha Talbert as the Survivors eliminate the Lady Rebels, who are yet to win their own competition.
So we go to the money game and this errant throw from Boom catcher gets away from Janet Cassasola for the first Hot Mama?s run.
With bases loaded the Hot Mama?s pick up a second run from the walk given by the pitcher.
On the other side, the Hot Mama?s pitcher is simply in touchable at least by the Boom Team today who can?t get a hit against Kenreen Gillette.
Hot Mama?s go on to post the 5-zip win and take this years C.L.B. Rogers Title all the way back to Cayo. We say congratulations. We also say congrats to Lynette Gabourel who was voted most valuable player. And also to Marsha Wills of Boom Survivors who won the home run derby.

?We hope that next year we could do better. This year the girls them?what happened was that they were not in tip top shape due to not having competition in town and were not active with playing softball. So I can?t kill the girls them for that.?
James Adderley
?I understand that we have a complaint not only from your team but from fans who said that the scoreboard and the game clock was made unavailable to you??
Leslie Rogers Sr.
?Well it is a shame to say that Rogers Stadium should be the home to softball and this is the second year that I?ve held the tournament and I didn?t have access to the scoreboard that belongs to the kids. The federation says that this year here the Belize City didn?t affiliated with the association. But I mean when you deal with the amateur you are always affiliated, it?s unfair that they didn?t want to lend me their bases nor the scoreboard. It is a shame. In fact if they had power over the stadium I wouldn?t have had yesterday at all.?
Hey folks, that?s our show for tonight. We certainly invite you back same time, same place next week. Jah, over all I?m James Adderley.
