Chopping victim recovers in hospital

Story PictureA brazen attack in the Stann Creek District has left one Pomona resident hospitalized with chop wounds to the head. This morning, I picked up the story at the K.H.M.H.

Jacqueline Godwin, Reporting
Forty-one year old Raymond Peters lies in the Karl Heusner memorial Hospital with several chop wounds to the head, left eye and left side of the neck. According to Bridget Peters around seven on Sunday evening her husband was viciously attacked by machete wielding man who went to their house in Pomona with the intent to kill.

?Because he only have the thing right so, because all I heard was plasp plasp in his head. It was then I looked up and I say hey how this man come and whap up this man and this man the bleed.?

Dennis Peters, Brother of Chopping Victim
?The dude just came and he did a brutal blow and I mean seven chops. This guy is really good a hand man at chopping and his full intent of course was to take away the life of my beloved brother.?

Peters who was left handicapped when he lost his right hand during a factory accident eleven years ago could not defend himself and was struck repeatedly in the head, face and neck. Today Peters says he does not know why anyone would want him dead.

Raymond Peters, Chopping Victim
?I, I just no have no feeling. I no see why the reason why I got chop for nothing. I just get to understand that he chop and cut me for nothing.?

And that reality has prompted investigators to explore the theory that Peters was attacked in a case of mistaken identity. According to the family earlier that day in neighbouring Hope Creek Village, Peters? son was involved in an altercation with another man.

Bridget Peters
?I me deh outside of the step and he was sitting down on the step and a man just come on a bicycle and come right where he was and the man the talk to him, but I no hear like an argument. Because when he the drink he always has his hand by his mouth and he no a say nothing. So the same way he deh so I said oh dah nothing. Dah when I hear something gawn plasp in his head, because I was bending down rinsing some clothes. All of a sudden I looked up and all I saw was blood and I run there and all I saw was the whiteness of his skull.?

Police would only say that they are now looking for a resident of Hope Creek Village.

Dennis Peters
?We do not even want to hear about justice. Vengeance belongs to God. The brother who knows who he is, he knows the damage he has done.?

The family says they remain hopeful about their brother’s recovery; however, are concerned that he may have lost his vision in the left eye. A cat scan has been scheduled for this week to see if there has been any damage to the brain. If you have any information that can assist the police in their investigation please contact the nearest police station.
