Two charged in separate shooting incidents
Meanwhile, separate shooting incidents in Belize City have left two men charged with attempted murder. According to police, around eight on Thursday morning, thirty-four year old Eric Savery was in his car with his three children and a male companion but as they turned onto Dolphin Street a man on a bicycle rode up alongside the vehicle, pulled out a firearm and started to shoot. Savery says he accelerated to avoid the bullets but his car collided into a parked vehicle. No one was injured and the shooter disappeared from the scene. Based on a description of the gunman, this afternoon, police arrested and charged twenty-four year old Jamil Betancourt and charged him with five counts of Attempted Murder and five counts of Aggravated Assault. Meanwhile, nineteen year old Ismael Locke has reported to police that around seven thirty this morning he was on Rio Grande Crescent when someone he knew walked up to him with a pump action shotgun and pulled the trigger. Locke was hit in his hip and stomach and immediately taken to the K.H.M.H. for treatment. Doctors list his condition as serious but stable. The perpetrator has since been identified as twenty-one year old Gregory Johnson. Johnson has since been charged with attempted murder, use of deadly means of harm and dangerous harm. Both men have been remanded to Hattieville Prison until their next court dates.
