Search continues for missing B.D.F. sergeant
Today the Belize Defence Force expanded its search for Sergeant Ramon Aguilar who remains missing somewhere in the Chiquibul Forest Reserve. According to B.D.F. Chief of Staff, Lt. Colonel Reuel Black, they have now been joined by a specialised rescue team based at Caves Branch which is using dogs to track down the missing soldier. According to Black, their search has now expanded towards an area known as Champas Camara. Sgt. Aguilar went missing last week Wednesday while on a jungle warfare instructor’s course. The experienced soldier failed to return to base after he re-entered the jungle to retrieve a map he had left behind. It is suspected that Sgt. Aguilar may have gotten lost on his way back and possibly became disoriented. Although there is no evidence to suggest that Sgt. Aguilar may have been abducted, Black says they are handling the case from all angles. A picture of Aguilar has been handed over to the Guatemalan army which maintains patrols on its side of the border.
