Someone called him crazy, so he attacked a businesswoman

In the Belize City Courts, on Tuesday, forty-seven year old Kirk Nicholas began serving a two-year sentence for aggravated assault, following a psychiatric evaluation during which he was determined fit to stand trial. On May eighth, 2012, he was accused of attacking fifty-two year old businesswoman Jackie Roe with a knife, as she was walking towards the Swing Bridge. In her testimony, before Chief Magistrate Anne Marie Smith, Roe told the court that she was walking along Albert Street, in the direction of the bridge, when she heard a fuss behind her. When she turned around she saw Nicholas advancing towards her. To shield herself from injuries, Roe held out her handbag as Nicholas wielded the instrument dangerously. She encountered him the following day at the corners of Orange Street and East Canal whilst driving. According to Roe, he approached her once again in an aggressive manner and, fearful for her life she visited the Queen Street Police Station. Nicholas was subsequently arrested and charged for aggravated assault. In court, Nicholas testified that his behavior was in response to Roe’s son calling him crazy. Nicholas was found guilty of the offense.
It sounds like Roe’s son is right. No insults justify a violent attack that could have been deadly. A decade in prison might return his sanity.
I see this guy everyday and not one day has he been disrespectful. He always bid me the time of day. What he did was wrong but I have seen alot of our Belizean people that are well off feels as though people like Mr. Nicholas is below them which is wrong whether they are young or older. They call these people names and insult them which is totally wrong because we are all equal. I must say this is a sad situation in our society.

@Rene, you’re right, we are all equal, and equally the children of God. I have real contempt for those who think they are “better” than others, whether because of money, family connections, political office, or anything. They’ll all be judged one day.
But words are no excuse for a violent attack on another child of God. “Sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never hurt me.”
I agree with Tiffany. However I also want to say that if he had a knife (and I’m sure he did) if he truly meant to harm the lady her little handbag would have not be able to prevent him from stabbing her.
Some people have thick skin and others don’t. So when we say sticks and stones we should also say guard the words that come from your mouth. Because you never know what you can speak into existence. Hence someone working a last nerve that just snap.
Yes Ralph if it reach a point that Mr. Nicholas really need something to assist him I would invite him for dinner not tea. I have provided food to people like him more than once in my home. I was brought up that way. You could never know what will happen to you in the future, we could end up in the same position. Our society is too judgemental that’s why we will never get better as a society.
