Guatemala says no referendum if date not changed

Guatemala’s President Otto Perez Molina is making it abundantly clear that if Belize does not change the October sixth referendum date, Guatemala will not proceed to hold the referendum. The president made the statement on Wednesday adding that he was not prepared to waste two hundred and sixty million quetzals or thirty-two million U.S. dollars on a referendum that from the onset will not succeed in Guatemala. In the press reports, Perez Molina also explained that Guatemala’s Foreign Ministry is looking for an agreement with the O.A.S., to change the date of the referendum. He says that a new date would provide them with the opportunity to achieve “equal conditions.” It is not clear if the president means a change in the Referendum Act or in the results.  The Prensa Libre report also reiterates that Guatemala’s claim is for twelve thousand, two hundred and seventy-two square kilometers which amounts to about fifty percent of Belizean territory.

Bring our ambassador home. We can’t do business as usual with the Guat regime. They’re monsters — just follow the evidence at the genocide trial of Rios Montt, and the current president there was one of Rios Montt’s top military commanders killing Mayans.

It’s interesting the way guatemala likes giving ultimatums and fails to keep their side of official and international agreements. They had from 2008 to get their act together. what makes us think they will keep any new agreements. They cannot be trusted. Belize should not enter into any new agreements with them about their unfounded claim. Lets ignore the ……… while securing what’s ours. I believe that they are just buying time for bigger and worse plans for Belize. I don’t believe that they are interested in the referendum nor going to ICJ any more. They cant afford a referendum but they can buy attack planes to patrol a reserve. Come on Belize… those planes are meant for us.

I hope Bze keep with what they have at hand now and don’t listen to what our neighbouring country is saying because they are only playing games and tricks. They are always finding excuses for them. They need to learn to be responsible and Bze needs to tie their shoes well and not loose them until the conflict is settle. KEEP WITH THE DATE AND LAW THAT IMPLIES FOR OUR COUNTRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

while we busy di fight with log hoggers and land grabbers…Guatemala is taking the lead no longer talking to Belize but directly to the OAS and installing A-29’s on the border. Soon they will be the first to move their case to lobby at the UN.

I hope that the Belizean government does not let down their guard. You cannot trust the President of Guatemala. As everyone knows he is being accused of a mass genocide. If that is true then the whole Belizean community at large needs to be on their guard also. Our government seems not to be intimidated by the Guat. gov. so as rightfully as cayo gyal said “KEEP WITH THE DATE AND LAW THAT IMPLIES FOR OUR COUNTRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

its the British that cause all this nonscense in the first place…….now dat we do not have logwood they are now punchus pilot……..can’t understand how all these years a border line cannot be settled. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs need to be serious and let them Guats know that they just cant come claim Belize’s land, let us get assistance from any powerfull country that is willing to assist us in our cause, because it seems that the OAS & the UN have been bought by the Guatelamans, ofcourse if you notice the first language of the Preseidents of these organizations speaks Spanish…..so wat that tells you……

Planes patrolling Guatemama land is not meant for their safety but to come into Bz space and threaten the Bz people, no Belizean wnts to own Guatemalan land or become their citizen. Where is the PM & his cabinet on this CRITICAL ISSUE explaining to their subjects that we will not bend to Guatemala demands and have the UN involved for blood will surely be spilled. These people have no respect for human lives. They kill their own people for greed, and material posession.
