Lopez charged for Gardiner’s murder
In Magistrate’s Court today, the accused killer of Mark Gardiner was formally arraigned on a charge of murder. Twenty year old Kareem Lopez of Faber’s Road turned himself in to authorities on Friday afternoon after he was named by the cops as someone who could assist in the official investigation into Gardiner’s death. Following an identification parade on Saturday, Lopez was detained pending charges. With the charge sheet, investigators also made an application for Lopez’s fingerprints to be taken. Apparently, the accused had refused to be inked during his formal arrest. Lord upheld the submission and ordered that Lopez be fingerprinted. We understand Lopez’s fingerprints may prove crucial to the investigation as the killer is said to have grabbed hold of Gardiner’s bicycle during the shooting incident. Gardiner was shot in the back of the head at the corner of Water Lane and East Canal on Thursday morning. He died later that night from his injuries. Lopez has been remanded to Hattieville Prison with his next court date set for November tenth.
