No arrests yet in Cristo Rey girl’s murder

Story PictureWhile authorities have made an arrest in the Mayen killings, the second murder to rock the Cayo district remains unsolved. News Five’s Jacqueline Godwin has the details.

Jacqueline Godwin, Reporting
As family and friends arrived at the Tzib?s residence in Cristo Rey Village to attend funeral services for seventeen year old Pricilla Arcenia Tzib the mood was sombre as all of them try to understand why the teenager was executed.

Today as we spoke with Carmelo and Reyneldo Tzib, the victim?s father and brother. Both men told us that they strongly suspect that the murder is as a result of a family dispute?a fight that escalated on June 18th, 2005 when Reyneldo?s wife Consuelo got into an altercation with his uncle?s daughter Melissa Tzib. Consuelo claims she and her unborn child were threatened and during the ensuing scuffle, Melissa was accidentally stabbed in the upper chest with a knife Consuelo was about to hand over to another family member.

Reyneldo Tzib, Brother of Deceased
?She told Melissa that she want to take out the baby from her belly, which she had said that she wanted to kill her and take the baby out of her belly, from she and her mother and everybody from there from the sister. And right there the fight started. When they were fighting, the knife cut, not too big, in her breast. And when I got there they were struggling, so I parted them from the fight and I brought my wife inside.?

Since then, the Tzib family says they have been constantly harassed and attacked.

Jacqueline Godwin
?Since then Reyneldo things have gotten worse between the families and it is sad because now there is a tragedy here. Your sister was killed. Do you strongly believe it is as a result of this ongoing feud between the families that led to your sister being killed??

Reyneldo Tzib
?Yes, I strongly believe that, because before they went into the next house they went straight to my house.?

Today as Pricilla Tzib was laid to rest, her family appealed to the police for intervention as they claim that last night, a death threat was made against the family. Reyneldo Tzib believes that his wife?s life is now in danger.

Reyneldo Tzib
?We want the police to do something because I know that they will continue. We use to have a toilet back there, and they always threaten we, so I change the toilet and put it right in front here. We don?t want trouble so I put the toilet there and at the back of the house I put something for her to wash her dishes.?

While at the San Ignacio police station today, we were told that on Thursday cops detained three young men from Santa Elena for questioning.

Jacqueline Godwin
?What do you think about the police ongoing investigation in catching the people who killed your sister, do you think that they will ever find them??

Reyneldo Tzib
?Well I think that yes they will find them because the people say that they done see their faces. So if they catch somebody they will know the faces.?

Jacqueline Godwin
?So you are hopeful??

Reyneldo Tzib
?Yes, hopeful.?

Fifty-eight year old Carmelo says he would like to thank the community for all the support they have given the family, but it is clear that this father remains in shock.

Carmelo Tzib, Father of the Deceased
?Now we have this situation, it happened so I don?t think that we are misjudging. They promised and it has happened.?

The police would not comment on the Tzib?s allegations and assert only that they are still trying to determine the motive for the killing

Carmelo Tzib
?I agree the police could do something, but whenever we do make a report no police show up.?

On Tuesday night, seventeen year old Pricilla Tzib was dragged out of the family house and then shot in the head at a very close range. The unmasked assailants are described as a tall slim built clear complexioned individual while his accomplice is a short, dark complexioned man.
