Alexander Pitts charged for burning down family home

Alexander Pitts

A teenager is tonight on remand at the Belize Central Prison for allegedly setting on fire his family’s house in the Gungulung area last Thursday.  Nineteen year old Alexander Pitts was charged this morning with Arson in the court of Senior Magistrate Sharon Fraser. Everything was lost in the blaze and according to police, the structure of the house was valued at eight thousand dollars while its contents at three thousand dollars.  When Pitts was read the charge, he appeared dazed and said nothing, but relatives say that the teenager had been displaying troublesome attitude towards his family after smoking marijuana. Relatives told the media that Pitt’s own mother and sister had to leave the house three months ago because of his behaviour and he was living since then with his brother, a security guard. It is alleged that Pitts watched as the wooden structure was consumed by fire. Police picked him up after the blaze; he was denied bail and his next court appearance will be in May.
