Arthur Young gets bail for gun/ammo arrest
Arthur Young is out on bail tonight, following proceedings in Belize City Magistrate’s Court earlier today. According to court reports, Young appeared with his attorney, Ellis Arnold before Chief Magistrate Herbert Lord today and pled not guilty to one count of Kept Unlicensed Firearm and one count of Kept Ammunition Without a License. Police prosecutor Clinton Magdaleno strongly objected against bail stating:
“Without prejudice to any other law, the defendant is a danger to the public and may commit more offences while on bail. The prosecution will be ready to try the case within two weeks.”
However, in response, Arnold told the court that even after the fifty arrests to his client’s name, most have been either withdrawn or struck out. After listening to both sides, Chief Magistrate Lord maintained that he could only consider the present charge in his decision and ordered that Young be granted bail in the sum of eight thousand dollars. As part of the terms of his bail, Young must appear every Monday, Wednesday and Friday between eight thirty and four thirty to the Clerk of the Court. The thirty-two year old was arrested on Thursday morning following a police chase. When officers searched him, they say they found an unlicensed nine millimetre Ruger Pistol loaded with eleven nine millimetre rounds hidden under his clothes.
