Story PictureYou have probably seen him on the streets of Belize City, selling his thirst quenching elixer from a bicycle cart. Today this hard working father is on a different sort of mission.

Jacqueline Godwin, Reporting
Thirty-five year old Steven Hemsley popularly known as the ?Seaweed Man? needs your help as he struggles to get the assistance needed to save his son?s life. ?It is difficult because sometimes I feel like crying. It is so hurtful that I do not know what to say or do sometimes you know. Just by looking at him and seeing him so down it is so hurtful so I am helping the public to please help me.?

The good news is that Hemsley?s grandfather, who lives in the United States, has promised to pay for the little boys? medical expenses abroad and get him in a hospital in Chicago. Furthermore the family in Belize are not simply relying on handouts but have planned to hold a barbeque on Friday that they are hoping you will support. Hemsley says all they need is the cash to pay for the plane ticket and other travel expenses.

?And that?s what I am looking out towards to at least try and see my son grow up and try and be something you know. So that is just the hardest thing for me, just by looking and seeing how he looks, it is hurtful. We are going to do a barbeque with my mother-in-law; she says she would give me a hand. My girlfriend brother says he will help me too, so the barbeque will be on Mahogany Street. He has an ice cream place on Mahogany Street, you can?t miss it and right by there we will have the barbeque to try to raise funds to get my son over there you know.?

If you would like to help young Malecai Hemsley you can contact his family at telephone number 660-5807 or make donations into Atlantic Bank account number 210764724. Meanwhile the Friday barbeque sale on Mahogany Street runs from eight a.m. until the food done.
