Freed on murder charge, Young back in jail
Two days ago, he walked away from a murder charge but tonight thirty-one year old Arthur Young is back in custody for possession of an unlicensed firearm. According to police, this morning officers of the Criminal Intelligence Unit spotted what they say was a suspicious vehicle. They attempted to stop the car and question its occupants but it sped off. A chase ensued but the cops say the pursuit ended near Cesar Ridge Road. Young reportedly tried to flee on foot but officers eventually caught up with him. Hidden under his clothes, police say they found an unlicensed nine millimetre pistol loaded with unlicensed ammunition. Young was immediately remanded to custody pending charges. Earlier this week, Young was one of two men set free after the D.P.P. chose to drop the murder charges against them. He had been accused of the August 2002 murder of Jose Chavarria. Because a nolle prosequi motion was entered, should new evidence be brought to the attention of the D.P.P., the charges can be reinstated.
