News 5 reporter takes top honours in PAHO awards

Word has been received from the Pan American Health Organisation that Channel Five has received top regional honours in this year’s PAHO/Caribbean Media Awards. News Five’s Janelle Chanona won first place in the category of Best Television News Report for her story “Gift of Life” which chronicled the Rotary Club’s efforts to provide specialised cardiac care for Belizean children. This is the fourth time that Channel Five reporters have been recognised by PAHO for their outstanding work. David Reid won the leading regional award two years running in 1995 and 1996, while I was honoured in 2003. Chanona will travel to Barbados for the November third ceremony.
