B.D.F. doctor punished for desertion

Story PictureFollowing reports on Friday that B.D.F. cardiologist Dr. John Gough had been detained for desertion; tonight we understand that he has since been demoted, fined and sentenced to confinement. According to Dr. George Gough, on Saturday his brother appeared before Commander Lloyd Gillett to answer to a charge of being absent without leave. The accusations cantered around John?s failure to live up to the terms of his bond following B.D.F. financing of his medical education in Mexico. Following the official proceedings, Gough was demoted from Captain to Private, sentenced to twenty-one days detention and ordered to pay a fine of two months salary. After serving his time at Price Barracks, Gough will be posted to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. According to the Gough family, a formal press release presenting John’s take on the situation will be provided to the media later this week. In related news, we have confirmed tonight that the Government of Belize has also initiated similar proceedings against Dr. George Gough for much of the same behaviour as his brother: that is neglecting to either repay his bond or serve as a full time doctor for the B.D.F. following his medical scholarship abroad.
