Two injured as car thief flees cops

A man once accused of abducting a female student, Albert Guy, is in police lock down after he not only stole a taxi but knocked down a woman and a child during his getaway. The drama unfolded late this evening in Ladyville. According to police, Guy caught the cab in Ladyville, saying he wanted to go to Corozal. But when the taxi pulled into the gas station and the driver got out, Guy jumped into the driver’s seat and drove off. The taxi driver, with the help of another motorist, followed in hot pursuit. By this time the police at the northern check point were notified and immediately set up a road block at the Boom cut-off. Authorities say as Guy approached the location he noticed the heightened security and turned the car around. Police say it was while on his way back to Ladyville that Guy knocked down a woman and her child in the area of Lake Gardens. Shortly after the accident Guy was apprehended and is tonight in Police custody pending charges. As for the mother and child, we understand both were taken to the B.D.F. Hospital. Guy had been sentenced to eight years in prison for the October 2000 abduction of eighteen year old U.B. student Tracy Gillett at the Pallotti junction. He was freed in 2004, however, when the Court of Appeal overturned his conviction because in the police I.D. parade there were no other men of East Indian descent.
